Every story begins with a dream.
It begins with an intention.
Hello everyone,
My name is Miguel Diaz. Since I was a little kid I always dreamed of traveling. I dreamed of experiencing different cultures and seeing those beautiful sights I had only read about. Growing up, my parents took my siblings and I on a road trip to Mexico every Christmas break. Those few weeks every year in our hometown was something that we all always looked forward to. The trip was always long (several days there and back) and the stops we made were plentiful, but the company and the memories were priceless.
Years later, the nostalgia of going on an adventure made its way back into my life. As the New Year began in 2016, my wife and I decided we wanted to travel abroad for a longer period of time. Two years prior, we had made several week-long trips to Canada, Colombia and Peru. The typical one week vacation didn’t appeal to us anymore. We wanted an adventure. At the time, we both had the typical two-weeks-a-year-vacation jobs. However, we knew that in order to satisfy our yearning for adventure we would have to go and explore for weeks at a time.
We wanted the freedom to move as we pleased, creating our itinerary as we roamed with only our backpacks on us. We knew that we had to make an important and life-altering decision. It was at that point that we wrote down our intention to travel by the year 2017. We decided that writing it down on a notepad would solidify that promise we had made. We framed and hung our note to serve us as a reminder of the commitment we had made to ourselves.
Having that note reminded us everyday of our ultimate goal. We talked about our plan every day in order to make that goal a reality. As time went on I remembered a saying my parents said to us growing up: “No dejes para mañana lo que puedes hacer hoy” (Do not leave for tomorrow that which you can do today). In life, we tend to put off our own plans and sometimes our dreams and wait for the perfect time to take action. We decided that we weren’t going to put off our dream for another year in hopes that it would be “the perfect time”.
So in April of 2016 we boarded a plane with a one way ticket to Paris.
